Rosemary Wahu Kagwi is commonly known as Wahu in the public. She is a singer, songwriter, actress, former fashion model, and entrepreneur. Wahu was a student and graduated from the University of Nairobi with a bachelor of arts in Mathematics and communication.
Rosemary Wahu Kagwi ventured into her career in the music industry in 2000, since then, she produced three songs, later in 2005, and she released her first hit. The Kenyan queen has entertained many Kenyans and fellow artists as well.
She has worked with artists like Nameless, Nonini, Fally Ipupa, Wyre, Qpu, P-Unit, and many others. In MTV Africa Music and Pearl of Africa Music Awards 2008 where she was named the best female artist.
In the same year, she was branded as the favorite female artiste in the chat award 2008. In the following year, 2009, she produced her best video where he featured Bobi Wine. In 2010, she did the best reggae song in Tanzania music awards.
Recently, she collaborated with a Ugandan female Cinderella Sanyu famously known as Cindy where they released a hit that has come to win a lot of awards and has grown to become the household music played in many radio stations and televisions all over Africa.
Wahu was born in 1980, in Nairobi Kenya. She got married to David Mathenge who is well known in the public as Nameless. The love birds met while she was still a student at the University of Nairobi.
After stories broke out for their closeness, the couple opened up and hosted family and friends and their die-hard fans to their wedding that became the talk of the town in both newspapers and TV stations.
Months after her marriage, she started a blog page where she shares about the challenges of motherhood more so when it comes to raising her two kids. When it comes to family, she loves her parents, GS Kagwi and Nyakio Kagwi.
She lost her only brother and has a sister, Charity Kagwi. Upon completion of her Bachelors of Arts course, she made her mind to further pursue music as a career because that ran in her veins.
While still at the prestigious University of Nairobi, she had ventured into the world of fashion and modeling considering the beauty she is. As she was still on campus, she would get modeling gigs that paid her off quite well hence, she would use the money to cater to her tuition fee and get some upkeep money as well, and thus life was not worse off for her.
With her music passion while in the University, Wahu’s love for arts together with music greatly aided her to meet and make friends with known household names and media personalities and music artists too who were there for her and encouraged her venture into the music career because that is what she loved.
Upon completion of her studies, there was a lot of pressure from the outside, from both parents and the society for her to join the corporate world just like other graduands but Wahu had a burning desire to join the music industry since all her hearts desires were on music and nothing else.
Despite her interest in the industry, music did not play well during that time but she was determined to go after her heart’s desire. With this selfless effort, she rose to produce the best music and become a celebrated artist. This saw her win the Kisima awards and this elevated her music career into the next level.
