Uhuru Announces Pay Cut On Government Officials amid Coronavirus
The head of state addressed the nation regarding the corona virus in the country. Speaking outside state house the head of state also announced a pay cut for government officials starting with himself.
He stated that he and deputy president William Ruto would lead by example getting the highest pay cut. The cabinet would also be required to give up 30% of their monthly salaries towards the same. The chief administrative Secretaries would also forego 30% of their salaries in this dear time.
The principal secretaries were also not left behind as they would take only 80% of their salaries home. This directives as can be noted has only affected the executive arm of the government with the president appealing to other arms of the government as to chip in and state their contributed in the time where the country needs every available help.
"I call on the other arms and tiers of Government to join us in this national endeavour, by making similar voluntary reductions; which will free-up monies to combat this pandemic." the President requested. This comes after the Narok governor took the lead declaring his pay cut by 30% as well as that of the deputy governor. The members of County Executive Committee also took a pat cut of 25% to follow suit in Narok County and this will affect the March and April months.
