List of 10 community based organizations in Kenya
Apart from Government, Community based organizations helps in fighting prolonged droughts, the recent floods, poaching of wild animals, cutting down of trees and the other disasters that are faced in Kenya. Some of the organizations in Kenya are;
1. Rhino Ark charitable trust
This was founded in 1988 with the aim of dealing with the crisis that challenged the Black rhino population in the Aberdare ecosystem. The formation of this organization was to offer assistance to the Kenya Wildlife Service to build an electric fence to help fight the poaching of wild animals in the ecosystem.
2. Amref Health Africa
This organization was formerly the African Medical and Research that was founded in 1957 with aim of providing mobile air based health services. It however, provided hospitals with surgical support. In the early 1960s, Amref added land based health services an mobile clinics.
3. Caroline for Kibera
The CFK organization was established in 2001 as a soccer program to promote leadership development in youth and assist in reducing ethnic violence in the society.Tabitha, one of the founders opened a community health clinic with the aim of providing health care services to the needy.
4. East African Wildlife services
It was established in 1961 through a merger of Kenya, Tanzania wildlife societies and wildlife enthusiasts from Uganda. The organization boasts itself as the voice of East African region wildlife conservation by influencing changes.
5. Asante African Foundation
This non-profitable organization that was founded in 1960 with the aim of educating the African youth to be able to face challenges and opportunities in life.
6. Rural Outreach Africa
The organization was established in 1985 due to the arising result to action research regret. The project was to determine the extent of food and nutrition situation in sugarcane farming in Mumias and by this ROA integrated the soil fertility management to improve soil fertility, improve the smallholder income, encourage diverse farming and provide food and nutrition security.
7. African Conservation Center
This organization was began as a wildlife society field research and training center and was established in 1960s.It was made by a group of Kenyan nationals who were associated with wildlife conservation society. The organization became a pioneer in ecosystem monitoring, community based conservation and biodiversity informatics and by this the organization gained recognition, funding and support.
