Hope At last for Milk farmers as President Uhuru Comes up with solutions
Milk farmers in the past have been complaining of poor prices. Farmers in Nyandarua County were even giving dogs their milk due to lack of markets. Lots of powdered milk has been imported from Uganda at low prices therefore leaving our farmers without any market to sell their milk to. The president in his press statement at statehouse announced that his government has set out several solutions to this problem.
1.) He has directed the treasury to release 500 million that will be given to the New KCC to purchase all the surplus milk from dairy farmers immediately
2.) He has also directed the treasury to release another 575 million that will be used by New KCCC to revive the Nyahururu and Nyeri plants. An addition 1 billion shillings has been given to boost the milk sector
3.) 16 percent VAT has been set on all powdered milk coming from the EAC community. No milk will be allowed into the country if it does not meet the required standards.
