Covid-19 and Tourism: Coronavirus Has Scared Tourists
Tourism players in Kilifi have uttered fears of trailing business in the coming days following the world wide binge of the deadly coronavirus (Covid-19) that has produced loss of lives since it was first testified in China.
“The Kenya Hotel Wardens and Caterers Association (KHCA)North Coast chairperson Maureen Awuor, who is also the Ocean Beach Resort general manager, said Malindi, being “a little Italy in Kenya”, has been unfavorably pretentious by the outbreak”.
Italy is one of the countries that have been pretentious by the disease.
''In the coming weeks, we might see a decrease in bookings to Malindi and Watamu resorts due to fears of contracting the disease,'' she told journalists in Malindi.
Now, some hotels have started getting terminations and delays of travel schedules from Europe, especially from Italy.
At the same time, Ms Awuor said they are content with the government’s readiness for handling the deadly virus.
They have put measures that are considered to be effective in the region as a way of fighting the virus. Thee includes the closure of all public beaches in the region, maintaining social distances in all areas especially in the malls and in transport sector and regular hand washing as way of curbing the virus spread.
