Babu Owino Fails to Appear In Court
The Embakasi East law maker Hon. Babu Owino failed to make his appearance in Milimani law courts to answer to the charges against him of subversion and using abusive language against the head of state, Uhuru Kenyatta. The reasons stated as to the non attendance of the accused law maker is that he was feeling unwell in the Industrial Area Prison where he is in remand for attempted murder charges.
The Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot directed that the law maker get access to medical attention at the facility where he is being held as he awaits the verdict that will be given on his jail application in the attempted murder case of DJ Evolve. The young Embakasi law maker was involved in a shooting incident in a restaurant in Nairobi that left one person sustain injuries and his getting a seven day detention as his case will be mentioned on Monday. This incident happened on 17th January 2020.
The magistrate said that the case on Babu will have its mention on the3rd of February 2020. In the charge sheet presented before the court, it is alleged that the law maker, made utterances that were directed to create some disaffection on against the presidency in rally held in Kawangware on 24th September 2017. He is also facing charged on incitement to violence.
In the recent incident where Babu
found himself at the wrong side of the law, he is alleged to have shot one
Felix Orinda popularly known as DJ Evolve on the neck twice. He was arrested on
Friday the 17th of January 2020 and arraigned in court on Monday the
20th of January 2020 and charged with attempted murder of DJ Evolve
who was recovering from the shots in Nairobi hospital. The law maker entered a
plea of not guilty on the charges read to him and attempts by his lawyers to
have him released on bail as he had two young children and a wife were futile.
The prosecution prayed to have the bail denied to the law maker as it was
likely that he would interfere with the witnesses. He was given a seven days
detention as his case awaits a mention.
