Also, there are Mwomboko Kenya Dancers which was formed in the 1940s. The group resides from Mukuura, Ndia in Kirinyaga County. The name comes from Kikuyu name known as Mwomboko. The group is meant to educate the public on Kikuyu culture through dance and music.
Kirinyaga County is also known well in tourists attractions because they have 17 waterfalls. These are found along the course of the six major rivers, namely; Sagana, Nyamindi, Rupingazi, Thiba, Rwamuthambi, and Ragati. They are from the mountain cascading downwards south and west of the county.
We also have the mwea marathon which uses ‘smell rice’ as the tag line, and its main objective is to empower the youth. The mwea classic marathon is associated with Kenya’s largest scheme that spreads along rivers Thiba and Nyamindi.
It is intended to showcase to the runners the beautiful paddy carpets that define mwea and at the same time create awareness that connects education and economic empowerment to sports. The run targets the high schools students within the County.
