How to be successful in life in 6 steps
Success is defined in many ways depending on how one views success. Some may think of it as getting a high salary others may think of it as prospering at work. Others view as professional accomplishments though it leaves some important aspects of life.Some of the areas where people work for success include athletics, relationships, family and academics. According to many individuals, success can be defined in different ways such as being loved, healthy, safe, happy and being fulfilled.
According to my definition, success is being able to achieve your goals.Though what worked for someone else to become successful may not work for you, there are basic steps for one to increase chances for him/her to become successful in, life, love or what according to you is the success.
1. Implementing growth mindset
The two types of mindsets are fixed and growth mindset that influence how people perceive about whom they are and their abilities. People with fixed mindset perceive success as a result of the innate talents. Those growth mindset believes they can grow and change through their effort.There are several ways to implement growth mindset which include:
v Appreciating that one’s effort is required
v Be ready to get new skills
v Perceive failures as being learning experiences
2. One to learn to handle his/her emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence is the ability to utilize, understand and make decisions from emotions. There are several ways to improve one’s emotional intelligence which include:
v Knowing your feelings and their causes.
v Looking for appropriate ways to dealing with your feelings.
v Paying attention to others in terms of hearing what they are saying and nonverbal signals in addition to body language.
3. Developing the mental toughness
Mental toughness is the ability to continue trying during the facing of obstacles. Things to do to improve one’s mental toughness include:
v Believing in one’s self and having positive attitude towards yourself.
v Keep on attempting
v Setting your own attainable goals
v Finding support system who can be co-workers, mentors and friends.
4. Strengthening one’s willpower
There are some strategies that can improve one’s willpower which includes:
- Be ready to distract yourself from doing something you had enjoyed doing earlier before.
-Keep on practicing. Use willpower to achieve small goals.
5. Keep on motivating yourself
You need to find something that will motivates you that is doing something to get personal satisfaction.
Things to do to increase the sense of self-motivation are:-
Ø Challenging yourself by finding a goal that is not easy as such but achievable.
Ø Stay curios by looking for things that would attract your attention and that you may want to know more about
Ø Take control to stay motivated to avoid any distraction from achieving your goals.
Ø Avoid fearing competition. You shouldn’t give up just because there is someone who is trying to achieve same goal as yours then he/she achieves before you achieve
6. Try to model the features associated with high potential
The following features should guide you:-
-this can be achieved by paying attention to one’s own improvements instead of worrying about being the best in a particular thing.
-learn to appreciate when others are able to succeed.
Ø Try to be curious about environment around you.
Ø Try to be courageous
Ø Learn to accept ambiguity
In conclusion, success is ability to achieve your own set goals. Success can only be achieved in six simple steps which includes: having a growth mindset, learning to handle emotional intelligence, developing mental toughness, strengthening one’s willpower, trying to model the features associated with high potential, keeping on motivating one’s self.
