Betty Kyalo is a famous media personality in Kenya. She is T.V host and news anchor at K24 TV and has a popular show Up Close with Betty. Before joining K24, she was at KTN. Betty is a mother and an entrepreneur. Together with lawyer Susan Kaitanny, they opened a high-end beauty parlor, The Posh Place. There was a grand mega opening for the establishment that had Betty as the face of the brand.
The business was doing very well, but like everything else, challenges occurred. Betty and Susan had a nasty fallout that was very scandalous. Betty left the establishment and decided to try things out by herself.
Many thought that it was the end of the bubbly Betty business career. To our surprise, Betty later unveiled her now thriving business, Flair, by Betty. Betty was interviewed by Hustle Magazine and gave some insights on her journey.
Betty emphasized how critical conservation is. She says that she used her savings to start the business. She had to forgo luxuries like holidays and to shop to save. She narrates that she had to make a painful decision of using savings she had put aside for her daughter to start the business.
You should save up 30% of your income every month. We should all develop this culture that will come in handy on that rainy day. You can open a fixed savings account to avoid the temptation to use the money.
For every business, you must understand your product and target market. Betty stated that she knew that a company that targets women would never go wrong. This is because she had put her hand in the industry before when at Posh Palace. She further stated that women like looking good and would go to any lengths to achieve that. With that in mind, she created a homely environment where her clients would spend quality time.
In any business you want to start, you must do your research. You must comprehend what attracts your consumers, what don’t they like, and who they are. These answers will give you bearing in the right direction.
You must be ambitious and goal-oriented. She confessed that she had apprehensions on whether to start the business. She was going to venture into an industry with big leagues and was afraid of failure. But she told herself that you could never fail in something you haven’t tried. Therefore she analyzed her business plan. She demolished the ideas she had and reconstructed it. She reached out to her family, who also held with ideas.
Betty advised the youth not to be afraid to start. In case they feel heartbroken, they should speak to people who they trust to advise them. She cautioned that you should not tell people who will tear your dreams apart.
